Brewers end season with a flying win against the Spitfires
Last game of the season for the Newton Abbot Brewers and like anyone they wanted to end it on a win. The Brewers led off the game in the top of the first with a bang, Nick Burt their centre fielder hit a 2 run home-run, his first of the season. The Spitfires hit right back with 3 of their own runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead, top of the second and the Brewers added on 2 more of their own to retake the lead before letting up 3 runs to Exeter in the bottom of the second. Top of the third and Brewers tagged on a single run only to be copied by Exeter in the bottom of the third. this early tight game was followed by a scoreless 4th inning for both teams and a scoreless 5th for the Brewers with Exeter capitalising by adding on another 3 to make the score 10-5 going into the top of the 6th. After a team huddle before going back to bat the Brewers seemed to find their groove and hit in 9 runs in the 6th and with their faces starting to lighten up and smile and have some fun kept Exeter from scoring in the bottom of the 6th before hitting another 10 in the top of the 7th and letting in 0 in the bottom to secure the win in 7 innings. It was a great game of baseball had in great spirits by both teams and the Brewers couldn't have asked for better hosts than the Exeter Spitfires. Highlights of the game was undoubtedly the homer from Nick Burt but also both Ian Durrant and Steven Schmidt driving in 5 runs each as well as Ian scoring 3 and Steven scoring 2 of their own. Ian Durrant led the hitting with 6 hits from 6 at bats, 4 of them singles and the other 2 being doubles. Lewis Peplow had a total of 4 walks, 2 of them being hit by the pitcher, "bruises mean bases" he said after the game, Charlie Capener touched home plate 4 times, with everyone else on the team contributing with runs and rbis, the Brewers end their season with an overall record of 4 wins to 7 losses with their record in single A being 2 wins to 2 losses. This has been the most successful campaign yet for the Brewers team and they hope over the winter they can put in the work and come back next season stronger and better than before, if you or someone you know may be interested in starting a new sport send yourself or them over to the Newton Abbot Brewers Baseball facebook page where you can keep up with all the clubs latest details and train sessions and news.
