Newton Abbot Brewers travelled up to Yeovil today to face the Whirlwinds, the weather was perfect and the spirits were soaring, the game would run out to an eventual 21-14 win to the Brewers after a 9 inning contest. Brewers star player of the day was starting pitcher Matt Vernel who pitched 4.2 innings with a career high so far of 10 strikeouts and only letting in 3 runs, he was on point today as if he was channeling his inner Justin Verlander. Coach Julio came in and saw out the last 4.1 innings keeping them to just another 11 runs and securing the win. Brewers offence was on point today racking up 15 hits, John Hendry, Jono Penney, Julio perez and Steven Schmidt led the day with 3 hits each. Jono Penney managed to drive in 4 runs as well. Charlie Capener managed to steal his first base in his three seasons of baseball. and with everyone else on the team getting on base at least once and contributing to only their second win of their campaign. The Brewers record is now currently 2-5 and they will be having a 3 week break before they start their single A campaign on the 7th of july agasint the Cardiff Merlins away at Cardiff. The yeovil Whirlwinds will be starting their campaign in the double A division, the game was played in the right way, with the right spirits right from the first pitch to the last. Umpire Neale raleigh was behind the plate and without him the game wouldn't have gone ahead.
