Brewers fall just short against Muskets

The Newton Abbot Brewers travelled to Taunton today to face the Muskets, the Muskets would run out eventual winners in a 30-1 win after 5 innings. The weather was on neither teams side as it rained and made it very tricky for all players, the ball was skimming off the grass past the fielders and the ball was getting slippery for the pitchers and catchers. The game started with Hanibal rivas pitching for the Muskets, he got three up and three down for the first inning before giving up a walk in the second and having a quick third inning before the Muskets brought in their relief pitcher who had two good innings to see the game out. Coach Julio started the game on the mound before swapping roles with catcher Matt vernel who finished off the first inning, he reappeared for the start of the second inning before being swapped back to catcher and Brewers first baseman Charlie Capener making his pitching debut by seeing out the last three innings. special mentions go today to Steven Schmidt making his first apperance at third base (the hot corner) and holding his own there in todays conditions, also Brewers outfielder Jamie Smith on his first start out in right field and doing a good job, Mathew vernel catching most of the game and keeping the runners from stealing with his arm and Charlie Capener on his pitching debut in which he managed to rack up four strikeouts across the three innings. The Brewers are at home next week for the second match against the Cornish Claycutters at their home ground of Stover School, till next time dont forget to keep swinging, fielding, throwing and running and most importantly dont forget to join us for more Brewers Baseball
